Happy New Year from Lorraine

Happy New Year from Lorraine

First of all, I wish you a Happy New Year. May 2015 be healthy (with a good health, we can do everything), busy (with a job, it is easier) and joyful (smiles and laughs make our days, don't they?)

I have thought about New Year's tradition and the first thing which came to my mind was le calendrier du facteur (the postman's calendar). Each year, and especially in villages, the postman or postwoman offers a calendar and we give him/her a bit of money to thank him/her for the good job done.

We have to choose one in a pile. Cats, dogs, birds, flowers, beaches, mountains, typical villages... are on display. This year I took one with old pictures of bicycles and bikes on one side and cars and campers on the other side.

The outside of the calendar gives us at one glance the months, saint of the day, moon, seasons. The inside is even more interesting : saints' day in alphabetical order, marriage anniversaries (from one year - cotton - to 80 years - oak), a map of France, another of the whole world, the list of towns and villages of our département with a detailed map of it, maps of the centers of Lunéville, Toul, Nancy (the whole town), Longwy, the times when sun and moon rise and set, and a small calendar for 2016. On top of this, we also discover a long article about pollution in houses, about how to save money when heating the house and about an organic way of gardening.

Who said the postman's calendar is not useful ? I would not do without it.

BONNE ANNEE 2015 to all of you again.

Thank you very much Barbara. My husband is going to retire this year, is it a blessing ? <br /> Just joking. I hope that I'll have more time to go out with him and take pictures all around Lorraine to write more articles.
