Iris in Jardin Botanique du Montet

Iris in Jardin Botanique du Montet

As my Daughter had never seen the greenhouses of Jardin Botanique du Montet in Nancy, we planned a trip there last week and I thought it would be a good opportunity to enjoy roses too. This place was created in 1975 and is really worth visiting.

But roses only started blooming because of our cool month of May, cold I should say. We were not disappointed as iris flowers were absolutely beautiful.

A few decades ago, iris flowers were mainly blue in our gardens, maybe this sort keeps better. But nowadays you can get nearly any colour.

The ones in Jardin Botanique du Montet range from all white to brown, without forgetting yellow, purple, and all sorts of blue.

And we kept leaning to try to smell differences between the scent of one colour and another. To be honest, I only found two groups, the usual pleasant perfume and the chocolate perfume, but once I have smelled four or five flowers, my nose is not of any help, it decides "it's all the same", even if I know there are differences.

Our walk around was quite a long one as we also enjoyed looking for the names of plants, flowers and vegetables. We didn't go up to the arboretum as it would have been too much for just one afternoon.

I'll write later about their greenhouses. This was a good visit too.

I would like to go when rhodies are blooming, or roses, but I don't think I'll have time for roses this year.
