Greenhouses of Jardin Botanique du Montet
By arriving at Jardin Botanique du Montet at the beginning of the afternoon we were advised to start our visit by going to the greenhouses as it was a warm day. Good idea, it was already hot in there.
We enjoyed discovering aquatic plants, especially the big water lilies, some have thorns on them and you could sit on others.
Then we looked at useful plants like tea trees, coffee plants, peanuts and even a papaya tree. We eat the fruit but I had never seen the tree.
We went on with plants from equatorial climate. It was hot and humid there and we tried to go as quickly as possible without missing any of the plants.
The next greenhouse is the one of arid climate. It was hot but much more pleasant to walk around. There are quite a lot of cactuses there, agaves, jojoba. Plants are big, high, obviously pleased to grow in this place. Among all these, you can see Echinocactus grusonii. What's this, you're going to ask me ? Just and simply the Coussin de belle-mère, Mother-in-law's cushion in English. I wonder who one day decided to choose this name for this cactus. Cushion is quite understandable, but mother-in-law's ? Any problem with mother-in-laws ?
You have to go back through all the greenhouses to go out so we had another look at all the plants we had enjoyed seeing. The most unusual to look at are sensitive plants which leaves fold when you touch them.
I forgot to mention carnivorous plants. One always looks for insects caught in them, but none was trapped this time.
