Friesian Horses in Lunéville
Among the horses we saw during the Concours International d'Attelage (International Carriage Driving Show), there were Friesian horses (Frisons in French).
For the ones who don't know Friesian horses, the Friesian is a horse breed originating in the Netherlands. These horses have been used as war horses in the Middle Ages as they were able to carry a knight in armor.
A Friesian horse is black with a long mane and long hair on lower legs. It is used today for dressage competition, pleasure riding and driving.
So the ones we looked at were competing in the carriage driving show. The first thing we noticed was the way they keep their head up. They seem proud, but also calm. Because of their head held so high, their way of walking is different from the other breeds, they move their front legs higher. You could believe they are dancing or showing part of a dressage show. They are also impressing whey they are running, as all big horses.
They were the favourite horses of the spectators. Even if they made a few mistakes, they were applauded. They look definitely different, that's why one can't stop looking at them when they are going in front of the crowd. A real pleasure for the eyes.
