D-Day : 70th anniversary

Today the celebration of the 70th anniversary is everywhere : in papers, on television, on the radio. We can see Normandy places live from 6 o'clock in the morning. We have seen old videos and heard about the 6th of June 1944 for about one month. Day after day we have seen and heard more and more.

It seems so difficult to make a summary of D-Day, even by watching The Longest Day (on television yesterday). And sometimes one thing makes you think about it, all of it. That is what happened when we saw this helmet when we visited the miniatures exhibition a few weeks ago.

The helmet shows everything, from ships to soldiers without forgetting the map of D-Day beaches. The ones who have fallen and the ones going on.

After Colleville-sur-Mer and the American cemetery, after Bénouville, we can see Ouistreham live on our television. The journalist for mid-day news was in Sainte-Mère-Eglise. French people know these names by heart.

May this day show people the courage and generosity of the ones who fought and died to free France, and how difficult their task was. What I have heard the most today was We won't forget.
