Sculptures in Lunéville (2)

1 Juin 2013 , Rédigé par Maryse Publié dans #Lorraine, #Lunéville

The 6th Symposium de la Pierre ended last Friday in Lunéville. I went there the day before to see the sculptures again and get answers to my questions.

Of course each work of art had changed in one week. One sculptor was still working hard, the others seemed to do finishing works.

Gé Pellini had signed his sculpture and it was really like mushrooms, the ones we call girolles and that are called chanterelle mushrooms in English-speaking countries. The subject of the symposium was "Végétal" and the link between it and the sculpture is obvious.

Then I stopped near Alex Stalenberg. The week before I was not sure about his sculpture. A woman ? A woman-flower or flower-woman ? So I asked the Dutch sculptor what he meant exactly and he told me his work was showing Duke Stanislaw because the duke was the one who had worked more for the gardens of the castle of Lunéville. And that is true, once you have been told this figure is Stanislaw, you see the likeness with the statue on Place Stanislas in Nancy and the paintings in museums. The back of the statue seems to be a big flower.

In the end I spoke to Kamen Tanev. I was stuck by his work again ! First time I ended by thinking about seeds. In front of the sculpture again, I had peas in mind, and Cousin Kay had suggested "peanut" (which doesn't come into my mind as we don't grow peanuts here). But the Bulgarian sculptor told me it was a BEAN ! He wanted to keep the subject "Végétal" and chose a "vegetable", but he wanted it not to be real, and to be a beautiful sculpture and funny one. So the top part looks now like a balloon and the bottom part has got a handle ! "Why a handle ? " was my question. "Just for fun ! ", he said. I imagine this Bean in the yard of a nursery school, all children would ask for balloons and would like to touch the handle. A funny sculpture, definitely.

These two visits were really interesting, I now wonder about the subject of next year !
