Maison de la Mirabelle in Rozelieures

The Maison de la Mirabelle (House of the mirabelle plum) in Rozelieures was the aim of our trip last Sunday. We knew about it but we had never been there.

It takes place not far from the fountain I spoke about in my last article. A sign identifies the place and you enter a barn with glass doors. There, big posters explain about mirabelles (fruit and trees). In the second part of the barn you can watch a film about mirabelle trees and the products made with fruit and flowers. Even if we have known about mirabelles for ever, it was pleasant to listen to the comment and see beautiful photos.

Then you are invited to visit the distillery part with a son et lumière which shows in a very pleasant way how alcohol is produced.

And you finish the visit by going on scales which give your weight in mirabelles, and not in kilogrammes. After this you can enter a big room where you taste and buy the products of this fruit farm, and get all the explanations about them.

You can find everything or nearly. From the mirabelle tree : a body scrub. From the mirabelle flowers : perfume, soap. From the mirabelle plums : jam, sweets, cans, cakes, drinks, alcohol (eau-de-vie, whiskey)...

We tasted the cocktail (lovely) and I tried a perfume. We left with different specialities. A good visit and a good shopping. I am now waiting for the time of having fresh mirabelles, in about three weeks from now.

Villey St Etienne is a good place for mirabelle, it seems they always get some there.

Oh yes Maryse I remember this fruit, we had this tree when we lived in Avrainville. We ate them during the day and the wild boars claimed them in the night....we did not argue with them !

Wild boars and roe deers are numerous around. Mirabelles still need 3 or 4 days to be ripe and ready for a pie.
