Dress codes from the Renaissance to Nancy nowadays

Students of regional schools teaching dress making, embroidery or textile have worked to prepare the exhibition Dress codes - Renaissance Nancy 2013.

The subject of their work was the use of clothes of the Renaissance later in this century ! How would these clothes survive from the 16th to the 21st century ?

The exhibition takes place in Saint-Sébastien commercial center in the middle of the town.

We were watching the exhibition when a young woman came to us and asked if we wanted some explanations. Of course !

From Renaissance dresses, students have managed to create modern clothes. They have moved parts of the clothes. The ruff is not necessarily around the neck, now it can be around the waist, behind the neck or there are several on the same dress. The form is smaller, bigger, like a rectangle.

The materials are not the same either. The makers have used fabric, but also plastic, toilet paper, vacuum cleaner filters.

If you click on the first photo, you'll see the red and white Gutenberg dress on the left, Gutenberg because of the letters which have been used for the ruff and on the plastic.

(Each school was given a colour, it doesn't really matter for us but it is important for students to recognize their work)

Students who made these dresses were quite good but it is still a bit early in the century to wear their clothes.
