Place Stanislas

Place Stanislas is the square to go when you are in Nancy. It is beautiful when the sun shines, when it rains, when it snows...

It was a project Duke Stanislaw imagined to link the old town and the new town. The square was built between 1752 and 1755, the architect being Emmanuel Héré.

I took this photo in October 2010 during the Jardin Ephémère de Nancy. The building on the left is the City Hall (Hôtel de Ville) and on the right you can see the Pavillon Jacquet and the Musée des Beaux Arts.

You would expect me to chose a photo of the square with the gates or the fountains but I think this one unites the beauty of the square in Nancy and the representation of the whole region with a small truck with iron ore. Coal and iron mines are closed nowadays, only one salt mine is left (in Varangéville), they were the symbol of industry in Lorraine.

I'll write again about Place Stanislas with more traditional photos as, of course, you can't miss anything. There is so much to show and to admire.
